On November 1, 1981, the first organizational meeting of the Louisville Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) was held at the home of Margie Charasika. During this meeting, the following temporary officers were elected: Margie Charasika, Chairwoman; Bessie (King) Jackson, Co-Chairwoman; Nina Bedford, Secretary; Leslie Wade, Corresponding Secretary; Sheila Carson, Financial Secretary; Rosetta Kelley. Treasurer: Rita Stanley and Public Relations Representative; Lois Morris.​

Today, the Louisville Section of CNW, Inc. continues the rich legacy of our founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. For 40 years, we have served the Louisville community by supporting women, children, and families through various initiatives, including empowerment conferences, diaper drives, shoebox collections for the houseless, and the Bethune Recognition Program. Our annual event of the Dr. Martin Luther King.​ Jr. Breakfast highlights our commitment to the community and serves as the financial support for our youth group, the African Jewels. The youth program aims to prepare young females for leadership roles and help develop their social, intellectual, and life skills. We also partner with other local organizations to conduct voter registration drives and participate as a Black Achievers sponsor.
